FIREHOUSE 12 TO PRESENT DANIEL LEVIN QUARTET

On Friday, December 14th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to present cellist Daniel Levin and his quartet featuring trumpeter Nate Wooley, vibraphonist Matt Moran, and bassist Peter Bitenc. This is one of Levin's longest running ensembles and has evolved and developed over the past decade. Their latest album Organic Modernism (Clean Feed) was released in 2011.

Levin has been called "one of the outstanding cellists working in the vanguard arena" (All About Jazz). John Sharpe wrote in The New York City Jazz Record "his technique is unquestioned and he revels in the physicality of the instrument." Organic Modernism was called "an eloquent and colourful performance throughout" (Stephan Moore, JazzWrap).

Levin attended the Mannes College of Music in New York and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston to study with Joe Maneri, Joe Morris, Hankus Netsky, John McNeil, and others. Levin's previous releases with his quartet include Don't Go It Alone (Riti Records, 2003), Some Trees (Hat Hut, 2006), and Bacahlau (Clean Feed, 2009). In addition to the records he has made as a leader, Levin has recorded or performed with Billy Bang, Anthony Braxton, Rob Brown, Gereald Cleaver, Joe MCPhee, William Parker, Ken Vandermark, and other. He is the recipient of a 2010 Jerome Foundation Award.
