With a career that spans more than seven decades, Dave Brubeck’s experiments in odd time signatures, improvised counterpoint, polyrhythm and polytonality remain hallmarks of innovation to this day.

From college campuses to international engagements Dave Brubeck and his band introduced and infused jazz into so many lives. In 1954 he was featured on the cover of Time magazine with a story about the renaissance of jazz and his place in jazz history.  So, for all you jazz lovers out there, Take Five, start your weekend early on Thursday, December 6 and don’t miss the chance to celebrate a living legend while supporting one of his favorite charities at the same time. A Tree Grows at the Griswold
Miss Florence’s Artist Tree at the Florence Griswold Museum is the result of an idea that relates back to over 100 years ago when the museum was Miss Florence’s boarding house and the epicenter to the Lyme Artist Colony. Artists would paint on doors and wooden wall panels as a way to leave their mark. In an effort to keep with tradition, but not tread on a landmark institution’s interior, Florence Griswold Museum’s Director of Education & Outreach, David D.J. Rau conceived of Miss Florence’s Artist’s Tree, which when said fast enough sounds like “artistry”. Read more.
 
Good Giving
Paying it forward usually makes a strong presence during the holiday season especially after a natural disaster like super storm Sandy.  Americans and others round the world dig a little deeper into their pockets and pocketbooks this time of year to “give back” and help where help is needed most. However as US citizens approach new heights in cliff diving and economic uncertainty and unemployment remain high, charitable contributions are more vulnerable than ever. Read more.
