Lark initiatives and endeavours

Ah, there's some good Canadian spelling coming to the fore! I wanted to share two projects that my quartet, The Lark Quartet, has taken on in full force this year, and ask for your support in our current fundraising campaign for our next CD. It's an exciting year for us and we hope you will come hear us or support our endeavours!

Lark About Town!

Outreach - we all do it, some with more enthusiasm than others, but the idea of education going hand in hand with careers in performance is becoming ever-more widespread. The Lark Quartet wants to share our enthusiasm for all the music we play with as many people as possible. This fall we have connected with two schools in the Bronx and have more performances to come this year. We are intent on making a contribution to the larger community that includes all young people who love music and only need to hear it to realise it. Here is a drawing done by one student while listening to Webern Six Bagatelles:

Recording "Composing America"

Composing America is the new name for the Lark's now 30-yr old commissioning history - and the title of our latest recording for Bridge Records - a CD that includes premiere recordings of Paul Moravec and William Bolcom with Jeremy Denk and Stephen Salters, works by John Adams with Yousif Sheronick and the Copland Two Pieces for String Quartet.

Why do we record these days? We certainly don't do it to make money - in fact, Lark has spent almost $50,000 over the last 3 years alone on recording! We do this because we believe in helping new works come into the world, in creating a place for them and a record of them - literally. It's both our and the music's legacy, and it's part of our history and our mission.

Lark is currently raising the last $10,000 for this CD on Bridge Records, to be released in January of 2014. We were given generous support from the Copland Foundation and Adelphi University and are almost at the finish line.

Please take a look at the project and buy a CD in advance to help us get to our goal by this Sunday.

Take part in the music that composes America!

With warm wishes,

Carrie
