Bach's Brandenburg Concertos were forgotten in a private library until 1849, but since their publication then they've been among Bach's most renown works. The third Brandenburg Concerto in particular is very popular � partly due to its instrumentation. It is orchestrated for three violins, three violas, three cellos, and basso continuo, making it a favorite of string orchestras and string quartets. In fact it is often credited with leading toward the creation of the modern string quartet.
