"Taking It On the Road"
What would it take to spread the message of Excellence in Arts Education so that the 'right' people will see it? From what I have witnessed, not too much more than what we are doing here. I recently responded to a piece in Andrew Taylor's blog on ArtsJournal- go look up on and subscribe to ArtsJournal by Douglas McLennan-it is free and inspirational to the "N"th degree.
Getting the Word to Circulate
This is the response that I sent to Andrew Taylor on his blog that I saw on the ArtsJournal mega-blog a couple of days ago. The original article is about our new ability to actually 'see' the activity of the brain in real time, the beautiful way a scientist is displaying it and what our reactions to it could be.
"As Extraordinary, with a cap E, the brain is, for the adult brain's goings-on, it is even more important for the brains of our young people to be exposed to the sights, sounds, feels, insights, ethics, achievements, joys and heart-pounding that the Arts bring. Neuron by neuron, our public school students (and all students) will also build the abilities of heroes and giants and learn by their senses that the world is changing and change-able and in desperate need for their talents and abilities. The country wants innovations, then teaching the Arts will teach innovation and model creativity of the best kind. In a blog that is dedicated to helping people as much as this one -- I'll make this pitch -- let's make the 'Next Big Thing in the Arts' Excellence in the Arts for our public schools."
And, so I sing my one note and get my word out into the giant beyond. Apparently the word is spreading. Heh, heh. It seems that people like what is being written, and well, the more the merrier. I encourage you to write-there is a spot to click for 'write an article', you see it down there? So, go ahead, let's get some more
ideas in the mix- good heavens people, let's let the Artsy Community talk(write!) Use a penname if that is better for you, I check this thing every few hours- you'll get instant gratification!
What would you name a campaign to increase the amount and quality in our Nation's Public Schools?
