Free Esther Short Park event is final in

"Six to Sunset"series


It's finally here! Bring your lawn chair, blanket and a picnic basket. The Vancouver Symphony begins its 36th "Season of Stars" with a rousing and family-friendly free outdoor concert in downtown Vancouver's famed Esther Short Park band shell tonight from 6-8 pm. The concert, featuring some of the most memorable movie music ever, will be produced and hosted by All Classical's Edmund Stone and the 70+ member orchestra will be conducted by Paul Kim, the Oregon Symphony's Resident Conductor.

Among the music being featured will be: John Williams' Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Harry Potter; James Horner's Apollo 13; Hans Zimmer's Gladiator; Henry Mancini's

Pink Panther theme; Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre.


Prior to the concert, Beacock Music will again create a musical instrument "petting zoo" where children of all ages can try out musical instruments from violins to trumpets under the expert supervision of professional musicians.

"Six to Sunset" is underwritten by Riverview Community Bank. The cost of the August 14 VSO concert is underwritten by the Community Foundation for SW Washington , the City of Vancouver and Harris Dusenbery. The VSO thanks our season supporters The Columbian, All Classical Portland and OPB.

Support The VSO and our future young musician projects! Free concert of virtuoso two piano music performed on two fabulous Steinway grand pianos Saturday, August 23 at 7 pm at Michelle's Pianos (600 SE Stark St. Portland).

The concert features Young Artist Competition gold medalist Fred Lu along with VSO pianist and supporter Dr. Michael C. Liu. The event is sponsored by Michelle's Pianos and The VSO.

Donations accepted to go towards young artists projects and collaborations with The Vancouver Symphony.
