Product Description

A timeless design from the 1700s brought into the present with an eye on the future.

In 1999 Dimitri Musafia designed AETERNUM, a new re-interpretation of the classic violin case. Starting with the straight-sided, rounded-end design that some experts think may have been invented by Stradivari, the instrument was placed at a slant to make more room available for accessories. Instrument safety is assured by high-density impact absorbing foam in strategic places, and the latest version also has an additional safety frame to further protect the scroll and neck. Linear surfaces reduced to the minimum, as well as cross-members with bolted-through steel L-reinforcements, provide further strength.

Safety, however, wasnt the only concern in designing AETERNUM. The interior is lined in suede-like Royale and padded with finest Italian silk velvet for an elegant and tasteful two-tone effect, and the lid is graced by two strips of hand-polished cherrywood burlwood, finished with six coats of traditional gumlack prepared in the workshop. The overall effect is of utility and modernity, but with just enough classic detailing and handwork to make it truly special.

AETERNUM is available for the violin and for the viola.

A mix of classic and modern. Instrument placement with strategic foam impact absorbing structures and a safety frame in the scroll-neck area to protect it from impact in all directions. Closed accessory boxes on long-lasting brass piano hinging for mutes, tuning fork, etc.. Deep quilted padding.

Hard surfaces lined in suede-like Royale, with truly finest plush Italian silk velvet padding.

All Musafia Cases are custom made upon ordering and require 8-12 weeks for production and shipping from Italy.
